Up the Street

Bipolar Industries is currently in the process of creating Up the Street - a compilation album featuring some of the Twin Cities’ best local bands. The theory behind this project is simple: create a medium that allows bands to touch base with each other while simultaneously exposing themselves to new audiences.

Participating on Up the Street will not only provide bands the experience of being featured on a compilation album and getting some new merchandise to sell, but they’ll also be exposing themselves to a wider network - fans, bands and clubs. Up the Street is looking to provide each group with access to a variety of bands whose sounds they may or may not have a lot in common with, but who are also trying to build a fan base here in the Twin Cities.

Each band will pay $100 and submit a CD Master of one song for inclusion on Up the Street. This money will be used to pay for the mastering and duplication of the album. In return, each band will receive 20 copies of the finished product which we recommend be sold for $5 each (completely recouping your initial cost). We will NOT be selling these albums in stores. We intend to give some to local radio stations to help promote it, but we’re going to let the bands actually sell the merchandise. The only way to get this album will be to purchase it directly from one of the bands featured on the album. Additionally, we’ll have more copies available for purchase by any of the participating bands at $3 each so you can use these to help make some money as well.

Our goal is an early summer launch for Up the Street. In order to accomplish this, we need bands to submit their tracks and accompanying information prior to May 19, 2006. Once we have the masters assembled we’ll get everything put together and are pushing for huge CD release party during the first week of June.

What we need from each band is the following:

  • 1 CD Audio track
  • Contact information for the CD insert (snail mail address, web site)
  • Numbers of CDs requested (first 20 copies are free with paid fee)
  • Shipping address for the finished product
  • $100 (plus any additional money for CDs above 20)
